At your service!

I am Vassili Chouroupov. I’m a qualified translator, interpreter, and teacher of English and Russian languages. In my career, I used to be an English tutor for specialists from various countries (Finland, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and the Baltic states).

My students want to improve their communication skills. We focus on

1) pronunciation and intonation and

2) vocabulary build-up in the areas most needed (travelling, daily routines, negotiating, writing reports, etc).

My training approach is based on the Square -model of “See – Read Aloud – Understand – Speak”.

The content is introduced in form of short dialogues. Dialogues help to learn at once the spoken and the written form of a word and provide examples of its use in real situations.

Dialogues are followed by exercises. Exercises build up the habit of using those words in conversation.

Finally, we would talk on the topic at large and my student will use the known words as clues to guess the meaning of whole phrases (content guessing).

Training program could be built on existing skills or designed from scratch.

A short diagnostic test will help to customize the content. The idea is to focus on individual needs from the very start and thus reduce the need for homework. The skills acquired could be practiced, then, straight away outside the class. This will keep the pace and motivation high.

In a nutshell, why learn English? —>

My Professional Background

I started my teaching career in Finland as a language teacher for business professionals. I gained experience in translation when helping my students to prepare for presentations and negotiations. Now and then I was employed as an interpreter for a negotiation team.

Since I moved to Britain 20 years ago, I have worked mostly as a translator for project teams. I have also provided ad hoc language training to the members of the international project teams.

A Teacher and a Translator

A translator can be a teacher, and a teacher can be a translator. A translator knows HOW to convey the idea in another language. A teacher has to explain WHY certain words should be chosen to convey a particular idea. Learning means turning this information into a new skill.

A translator works often in isolation. I enjoy doing things on my own.

I also enjoy interaction with people. The ability to convey ideas and explain them helps me to interpret at negotiations and live events.

It is not enough to give knowledge. I must show my students how to apply the knowledge they’ve gained in class. This will help them grow into autonomous and successful language learners.

Tailor the Training to Save Time and Money

Adults prefer to interact with the world in their own way. Some learners do their best when see and hear things, while others prefer to try out what is being taught. One to one tuition provides the best opportunity for customization of the content.

Open to cooperation

I have experience in working with a training team where teachers are involved in collaboration ranging from co-planning to co-teaching their language classes.

I would love to be a part of your training team. To have a chat about your requirements please send me a message.
